Some things to remember about building walls and what works to tear them down is that once you have found a successful method it may not always work. If you are clever and persistent against your natural tendencies you will be able to consistently tear down your emotional walls.

Let your grief out, cry, even if you have force yourself to cry! Crying will help to get your pain out. If you feel rage or grief – let that emotion out. You have emotional patterns that may condition you to build walls. You may feel vulnerable if you cry. Some ways to assist you with expressing your grief and allow you to cry would be to watch a sad movie or listen to a sad song. Sometimes remembering a sad past event of the loss of a loved one or beloved pet will allow you to open up and cry and release the emotion within you.
Break your patterns of acting out in negative ways. You built walls by developing patterns of reactions to behavior blaming your rage on a particular person instead of accepting responsibility for your actions. Break your comfortable patterns and tear down your walls.
You have emotional patterns that may condition you to distance yourself from others. You may feel vulnerable if you cry.
Role-playing is a good method to begin to open up to others. Role play with people you trust and play all sides of a scenario. Allowing yourself to open up to other and express yourself along with putting yourself in a position that allows you to think and see things in a different light will allow you to be a more accepting and open person.
Write down how your feel, if you are sad or angry writing down how you feel will help you to release your emotions. Read what you have written and allow yourself to experience the feelings.
Talk about your feelings and really listen to what is said to you. Have an open and accepting frame of mind.
Calming your self and becoming self-aware and with practice and experience you will able to tear down the walls that separate you from others.
